Dam Removal and Replacement Project

Completed on time and under budget.

City of Cove, Oregon - Hydroelectric Plant Controls Upgrade
Acted as the city engineer for the recent controls upgrade project for this 800 KW plant.

Sagebrush and Jim Knight Hydroelectric Projects, Twin Falls, Idaho.
Mr. Greenwood has for seventeen years been responsible for the redesign, repair, operation and maintenance of these two low head canal-based hydro projects. Work has included the removal, redesign and reconstruction of hydromachinery at both plants as well as the entire diversion dam at the Jim Knight facility. Substantial improvements in production, safety and reliability were achieved. This on-going plant management experience balances other activities in new project development.

Leanne Lake Hydroelectric Project, Kodiak, Alaska. Mr. Greenwood has participated in the conceptual and preliminary design studies for this proposed 2.8-MW hydroelectric project. Responsibilities have included the design and construction of a low dam for data collection purposes including the estimation of actual wind-blown ice cap loads, preliminary design of a steel dam employing substantial off-site prefabrication, preliminary engineering, initial and updated cost analysis, preparation of engineering drawings, production analysis, and interface with the Utility and other consultants.

Terror Release-Water Project, Kodiak, Alaska. As a contributor to the team effort, Mr. Greenwood has had the responsibility to develop and present preliminary design concepts, cost and production analysis, and technical support.

Shasta River and Dewey Smith Hydroelectric Projects, Yreka, California.
Mr. Greenwood performed all tasks related to obtaining FERC licensing for the Smith project, a proposed reconstruction of the 100 year old facility. The Shasta River Project required a new control system and related servo-systems which were designed, fabricated and installed by Mr. Greenwood. This equipment automatically parallels the hydro plant synchronous generator with the utility grid.

Eagle Crest Hydroelectric Project, Juneau, Alaska. This small (50-KW) plant was designed and installed for the City of Juneau in 1989. The design included a hydronic heating plant and interface to the existing diesel generating plant. Mr. Greenwood designed the power plant to simplify maintenance procedures. Performance goals were exceeded.

Lake Creek Hydroelectric Project, Cave Junction, Oregon. This small (50-KW) demonstration project was designed and constructed under the direction of Mr. Greenwood in 1983. A low (8 feet) reinforced concrete dam was engineered and constructed. Performance goals were exceeded. Recent improvements designed, fabricated and installed by Mr. Greenwood have included the installation of PLC automatic plant control and PID head level control.

Expert Witness Consultation for Travelers Insurance Company
Mr. Greenwood has participated in the resolution of large hydromachinery repair programs at Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and at Madera, California.

Three Creeks Vineyard Frost Protection Reservoir, Holland, Oregon.
Mr. Greenwood performed the engineering design and supervision of construction for this 40 foot tall compacted earth fill dam which impounds water for vineyard frost protection. Features include a filtered pressure pipe inlet, bottom drain with associated control gate, drainage galleries, sediment traps, outlet works and a high-volume concrete spillway.

Hydroelectric Plants, Various Locations, Alaska, California, Idaho and Oregon.
Mr. Greenwood has engineered, constructed, studied, maintained and operated numerous hydroelectric plants including utility interconnected and stand alone projects. Low impact impoundment structures have been achieved in many cases. Several systems have combined different generation sources (solar, combustion, hydro, batteries, inverters). These projects have allowed Mr. Greenwood to gain a broad base of knowledge in hydro system design and performance.
